The Best Cafes in Bali that you have to visit in 2023

3 Minute Read | Written by The Way To Wherever

Bali is famous for its incredible cafe offerings. Whether you’re a remote worker or on a short tropical getaway, you’re going to love the incredible breakfast (& lunch + dinner) options all over the island. If you’ve got a trip to Bali coming up, you’ll want to check out these spots for their unbelievable food and much more!

Canggu

Easily the most dense expat community on the island, Canggu has a seemingly endless supply of new cafes popping up every week. From cafe classics to menus that cater for any diet, you are guaranteed to find something that suits your tastes. And to all the digital nomads out there researching for a move to Bali, you’ll be pleased to know that almost every cafe in the area has faultless high-speed wifi and several also manage to squeeze in air-conditioned indoor seating, for those long days of remote work.

Here are our top picks for brekkie in Canggu;

Baked. Pererenan

One of the best breakfasts we had in Canggu, ‘Baked.’ not only nails the classics, but as the name suggests, whips up its very own bakery goods for use in its menu. With a gorgeous entirely al-fresco dining area, we’d say this is perfect for the early-risers, getting breakfast in before the scorching Bali sun gets too high in the sky.

Rise and Shine

If portion size is your primary measure of a hearty breakfast, head to Rise and Shine! Featuring the largest breakfast burrito we’ve ever seen and some of the tastiest breakfast potatoes this side of the Pacific, its breakfast offering is almost as good as their rotational single-origin coffee range.

Uluwatu

A far more sparse hub than Canggu, the tiny roads that weave between Uluwatu’s cliffside surf breaks are home to a few of our absolute favourite cafes in Bali. Of the areas on this list, Uluwatu does have the least choice with the local warungs making up for the gap in supply. That said, the choices are top notch and we spent plenty of time eating and working at the cafes of Uluwatu.

Our favs down in Uluwatu;

Ours.

While not the cheapest eat in this list, the team at Ours know how to cook our favourite eggs in Bali. We’ve also had the best vegan food (as non-vegans) we’ve had on the island at Ours. So if you find yourself in Uluwatu, treat yourself to an incredible breakfast (they also do quite a few bundled deals) or a beautiful candle-lit dinner after the ambience changes into its evening dress! Bonus points for the air-conditioned bathrooms!

The Bakery

Probably the very first place you can get a coffee and something to eat in Uluwatu, The Bakery caters well for surfers heading out/coming in for the morning, reminding us of a classic Aussie bakery complete with sausage rolls and cheesy-mite scrolls! , They open at 6am and brew beans from one of our favourite roasters available in Bali, Dimattina.

Ubud

If you’re heading into the jungles of central Bali, Ubud will probably be your destination. A health and wellness capital for the island, in our opinion, Ubud has the biggest range of vege & vegan foods in Bali by a fair shot. It’s also a much more traditional part of the island than both Canggu and Uluwatu, and with that comes an ultra wide range of eateries.

Ubud’s best breakfast choices;

Kafe

Offering up a huge range of healthy breakfast choices in their huge, three-story cafe, Kafe is one of our favourite spots to set up for a day of work in Ubud. With the size of the place it’s easy to find you’re own space, and their menu offering is so vast that you could have something different every time you visit, and it’s worth mentioning that it’s quite affordable!

Anomali Coffee

Another spot with an incredible range of Indonesian single-origin beans, Anomali is a great, air-conditioned choice for breakfast, or a coffee any other time! They serve a range of bakery goods and some simple breakfasts, the quality of the coffee is definitely the main event for us. Give the muffins a go as well if you visit!

That’s It!

If you’ve made it down here, thank you so much for reading!

This is by no means exhaustive, and there are dozens of options all over Bali, these are just a couple we think you have to visit next time you’re on the Island of the Gods.
